BOROUGH OF NORTHAMPTON ROLL OF HONOUR - WORLD WAR ONE
This index has been compiled from a Roll Of Honour (original paperwork stored at Northants Records Office).
A loose piece of paper inside the box has the following information :-
"This Roll of Honour was prepared in 1916 by a Sub Committee of the Finance Committee. It contains
the names of the men serving in the Great War at that time. It is possible that a few names were added
later, but it is not an accurate account of all men who served or who lost their lives in the Great War."
For correspondence relating to the Roll see file no. 593/1.
Town Clerks Office
28th November 1936.
The index includes all the information from the Roll of Honour. It records (where given), the forename and surname of each male,
the address in Northampton, a group number, a regiment or other description of military or naval service, rank and remarks.
The Borough of Northampton included Far Cotton, St. James and Kingsthorpe and streets from these places are listed in the Roll.

We think that the Group Numbers belong to the Derby Scheme.
A good explanation of the The Derby Scheme can be found at http://www.1914-1918.net/derbyscheme.html if you have any other ideas
about them please let me know.
